Specialty Item Moving in Venice
Pianos, safes, artwork, antiques, and electronics. Custom crating, stair-climber dollies, 4-person teams for oversized items. We've moved Steinways from 3rd-floor walkups.
The pieces a regular crew should not touch
Some items are not just heavy, they are irreplaceable, and a standard moving crew is the wrong tool for them. A grand piano, a gun safe, a marble dining table, a museum-grade canvas, a generations-old antique. These require the right equipment, the right number of trained hands, and a plan made before anyone lifts a thing. That is what our specialty moving service is built for.
We bring custom crating, stair-climbing dollies, piano boards and skid boards, four-person teams for oversized loads, and the experience to know the difference between a piece that needs to be wrapped and a piece that needs to be crated. We have moved Steinways out of third-floor Venice walkups without an elevator. That is the level of problem we plan for.
Pianos, safes, and oversized loads
Pianos are their own discipline. Uprights and baby grands ride on a piano board, get strapped and padded, and are maneuvered by a crew that knows how to take weight down a stairwell without losing control of it. Grands are partially disassembled, the legs and lyre removed and wrapped separately, the body crated or boarded.
Safes and other concentrated heavy loads need stair-climbers, the right floor protection, and enough trained people that nobody is improvising. We assess the path in and out before move day, because the time to discover a doorway is two inches too narrow is during the estimate, not with a 600-pound safe halfway through it.
Artwork, antiques, and custom crating
Fine art, sculpture, mirrors, and fragile antiques often get custom-built wooden crates sized to the piece, with internal cushioning and corner protection. A crate is not overkill for a valuable canvas or a one-of-a-kind antique; it is the only way to guarantee a rigid, protected enclosure for the trip.
We handle electronics and high-value home theater and audio equipment with the same care, wrapping against static and shock and documenting the setup so it goes back together correctly. Whatever the piece, the plan is made before the lift, not during it.
Experience and accountability you can verify
Moving Pro Inc is rated 4.9 stars across 152 reviews from clients across Venice and the LA westside, and specialty moves are where that reputation is tested hardest, because there is no margin for error on a piano or a piece of art. We are fully licensed and insured, operating under US DOT #1864442, MC #675888, and CAL-T0191919, with valuation coverage available for high-value items.
When you hand us something irreplaceable, you are handing it to a crew that has moved its equal before and an office that stands behind the result. That combination of equipment, experience, and accountability is the whole reason specialty moving exists as a separate service.

Answers
Specialty Item Moving: Common Questions
Can you move a grand piano down a flight of stairs?
Yes. We move uprights, baby grands, and full grands regularly, including out of upper-floor Venice and westside walkups with no elevator. Pianos ride on piano boards, are padded and strapped, and are maneuvered by a trained team that knows how to control the weight on a stairwell. Grands are partially disassembled so the body and legs travel safely and separately.
Do you build custom crates for artwork and antiques?
Yes. Fine art, sculpture, mirrors, and fragile antiques often get custom wooden crates sized to the piece with internal cushioning and corner protection. For a valuable or irreplaceable item, a crate is the only way to guarantee a rigid, protected enclosure for transit. We decide crate-versus-wrap during the estimate based on the piece.
How many movers come for a heavy specialty item like a safe?
We size the team to the load. Oversized or concentrated weight such as a safe or a marble table typically gets a four-person team plus stair-climbing dollies and floor protection. We assess the route in and out before move day so the crew, equipment, and plan all match the job rather than improvising on the spot.
Are high-value items insured during a specialty move?
Valuation coverage is available for high-value specialty items, and we walk you through your options before the move so you understand the protection level in advance. We are fully licensed and insured under US DOT #1864442, MC #675888, and CAL-T0191919. We also document the item's condition so there is a clear record at both ends.
Can you move a specialty item on its own without a full move?
Yes. We regularly handle single-item specialty moves, such as relocating one piano, one safe, or one piece of art, separate from a full household move. Just tell us the piece, the pickup and destination details, and the access at both ends, and we will give you a free written quote for that specific job.
